Hello, my name is Lorraine Evans and I am the Family Liaison Officer (FLO) at St Columba’s Catholic Primary School and I have worked here for 12 years.
My role is to provide pastoral support to parents/carers and help with any issues that you may have in relation to supporting your children, both at home and in school. I work to encourage parental involvement within school, signpost to agencies (where appropriate) and support families. Should you have a personal concern or school related issue, then I am here as a listening ear. I have access to a number of agencies who may be able to provide support to you and your family. Any query, large or small that you may require assistance with, I am here to help.
I liaise with all school staff, always in the best interests of the children and their families. I work impartially and confidentially and can provide a ‘listening ear’ if you ever need advice or support.
My hours of work are:
Monday – Friday 08:00 – 4:00pm

Summary of Role and Involvement with Parents/Carers
In my role as PLO (Parent Liaison Officer) I support parents/carers of the children at St Columba’s Catholic Primary School. I work closely with the Headteacher and DHT/SENC’o. I am involved in a diverse range of interventions with families. I support the whole person and take into account the strengths, needs and the understanding of their situation. I aim to build a working partnership with the child and parents/carers and seek to work with them to identify and understand the issues and develop solutions.
I provide a service for parents; I investigate concerns raised by parents, and teachers as agreed by the Headteacher. My primary role is to focus on early intervention, support parents, and break the barriers to learning.
I organise parent and family events, as well as being actively involved encouraging parental involvement within the school. This continues to be a huge success as the children and parents benefit enormously from the various events organised, ranging from parenting classes, healthy food, adult education and Christmas events.
I have contact with parents and families who have had family difficulties. These include issues around domestic abuse, housing, parental separation, attendance, health, social services, early years, police and welfare etc. I am linked up with global agencies, so that I can signpost for the right support and intervention the family require.
I am in school five days a week and am available to parents during the school day. I regularly provide a listening ear to families and I liaise with school staff where appropriate, to work in partnership so we can bring around change at the first sign of difficulties.
I aim to promote the self-esteem of parents, to enable them to respond to their families needs and by communicating openly so that they can provide good parenting. Each year in July I meet new families through ‘Stay and Play’ who are starting nursery. This involves explaining my role within the school, so that they have a familiar face from the outset.
I regularly have updates in the newsletter about up and coming events and course.
I am looking forward to meeting you in the very near future.
