‘Welcome to the Year 1 Webpage. We would like to extend a very warm welcome to you and your child and hope that they will have a very happy and successful year.
PE
P.E is on a Monday and a Wednesday. Children will need their PE kits including appropriate footwear
Reading and Phonics
Reading is a vital part of the Year 1 curriculum. We aim to promote a love of reading and spend time each day reading different stories to the children to enhance their imaginations and provide them with a range of interesting vocabulary that helps them with their writing. You can help by spending time sharing any books sent home together.
Reading books will be changed as regularly as possible. Please read with your child every night. Every time they bring their book back in, they earn a “star” for their star chart. The two children who earn the most stars in their class at the end of each term receive a special treat.
Homework
We give out homework every Friday, which is to be returned by Wednesday of the following week.
Phonics – children will be given their weekly phonics that they have been learning that week to practice at home along with corresponding pseudo ‘alien’ words. It is so important that children are given opportunities to read and spell these at home.
They also have some Maths homework each week and occasionally some topic work, too.
