The Live Simply award is an opportunity for our school community to respond to the Church’s call to live simply, sustainably and in solidarity with the world’s poorest. It is an invitation to follow in the footsteps of Jesus who lived and preached a simple life, and to take meaningful action on the ecological crisis we face today.
During November 2023, we, St Columba, applied for the CAFOD Live Simply Award. As a school, we are striving to show solidarity with our global family, we will make strides to live sustainably and aim to live simply.
The phrase ‘Laudato Si’ means “praise be to you” and the title is taken from a canticle (or hymn) written by St Francis of Assisi.
Encyclicals offer Catholics guidance from the Pope concerning issues which affect the lives and beliefs of Catholics.
In this particular letter, the Pope is not just writing to Catholics, but to everyone who lives on Earth because it is our common home.
