reading

We believe reading is fundamental! The ability to read fluently and with understanding is such an important skill to have and one that gives you access to every area of the curriculum. That is why we place such a huge emphasis on fostering a love for reading here at St. Columba’s.

Reading books will be changed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday – please spend at least 5 minutes a night reading with your child as it will have a massive impact on their progress!

pe

This term, we will have P.E. on a Tuesday and Wednesday. Children need to come to school in full school P.E. kit on these days.

spellings

Every Friday children are given spellings, based on the week’s spelling rule. These should be worked on at home. Just a couple of minutes every day will help to build knowledge and support spelling development.

A weekly spelling test will take place on the following Friday.

homework

Homework is sent twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays.   It includes, Times Tables, number facts, spelling, comprehensions and more.

Useful Information

Water Bottles

Children should bring water bottles into school each day. Please ensure that the bottle has a safety top on  and is clearly labelled.

Dojo app

We reward the children for good conduct in school by giving them Dojos. Please sign up to the Dojo app. We also send occasional updates through the messaging option.
