Mrs Dunne

Mrs Dunne

Mrs Dunne, the class teacher, and Miss Obrien class teaching assistant, welcome you to our Year 4 class!

In our class you will find:

Hardwork
Resilience
Challenge
Love
Friendship

And most importantly the Gospel values which we live out through our school mission statement! In our class we help to break down barriers to help our children learn and be the best they can be, tap into their talents and help them to flourish and enable them to dare to dream and be inspired!

homework

Homework in given out twice weekly on a Monday and Friday which will be Maths and Literacy tasks. As well as this children will be given times tables to focus on and learn thought their own ‘Time Tables Rockstars’ account. We encourage all children to do their homework and return it to school the following Monday or Friday to be marked.

spellings

Children will be given a weekly list of spellings to learn at home using a range of strategies they have been taught in class. Supporting your child to learn these spellings will be very beneficial to them. Children will be tested on their spellings in a weekly test on a Friday and a new list will be given for the following week.

readingWe LOVE Reading in Year 4

We LOVE reading in our class! We understand that reading is fundamental to our learning and development and that it will support us with our spelling and help us to become better writers. In class we have a wide range of class novels to choose from to read for pleasure during some silent reading time. At the end of each day, we gather around together to listen to Mrs Dunne read us a chapter or two from our latest class book – which she always leaves on a cliff hanger for the following day! At the moment we are reading ‘Harry Potter and the Philospher’s Stone!’ As well as this, each day we take part in a whole class guided reading session where we are constantly striving to improve our comprehension skills and our stamina to read at length.  Children are encouraged to read every night at home and record in their home reading record.
