HOLDING HANDS WITH JESUS AS WE LOVE, LEARN AND GROW TOGETHER
At St Columba’s, we pride ourselves on the quality of teaching and the purposeful learning accessible to all our pupils during our Religious Education lessons. Religious Education plays a central and vital part of our curriculum and essentially, is at the heart of our teaching.
Religious Education Curriculum Statement
We follow the Religious Education Programme recommended by the Archdiocese of Liverpool, ‘To Know You More Clearly’. EYFS-Year 6 have now implemented ‘To Know You More Clearly’, which is based on six branches taught in depth, with scripture at the heart of each lesson. It is an engaging, inspiring and motivating programme which challenges our pupils. The programme was developed to respond to the needs of children today and encourage them to explore the mystery of faith through Scripture and Tradition.
Throughout the school, each of the six branches have the same name to ensure children are able to make links to their prior learning as well as identify the different themes threaded throughout the school. The six branches are as followed:
Branch 1- Creation and Covenant
Branch 2- Prophecy and Promise
Branch 3- Galilee to Jerusalem
Branch 4- Desert to Garden
Branch 5- To the Ends of the Earth
Branch 6- Dialogue and Encounter
The structural elements of ‘To Know You More Clearly’ is spilt into three sections: Understand, Discern and Respond enabling pupils to achieve a variety of aims and skills, which enables different ‘Ways of Knowing’ (exploring what they will see/ hear to help their understanding, how they will discover more, and what they can do now).
During lessons, we follow Hear, Believe, Celebrate and Live lenses enabling children to access and celebrate the curriculum in a variety of ways and ensuring it is at the heart of learning.
Throughout their school journey, pupils have the opportunity to explore different faiths and religions as part of this curriculum.

Assessment
Religious Education is at the heart of everything we do here at St Columba’s. Therefore, it is crucial we ensure consistent high standards in this subject and have a clear assessment tool as we do with our other core subjects Maths and Literacy.
Below is how we assess our pupils in Religious Education. If you would like to see a copy of our progression document, please contact the school.
